Ometepe Island/ Nicaragua
It’s the biggest lacustrine island in the world. It’s placed inside Cocibolca lake and it’s created by two big active volcanoes Conception 1610 mts high and Maderas 1394 mts high. Its surface is about 270 square kilometers and it has 35000 inhabitants approximately. The most part of Ometepe inhabitants work in farming.
Its name derives from the Aztec language and it means Ome= two and Tepelth=hills, due to the mountains formed by the two volcanos. The volcanic activity, through the deposition of volcanic ash, has made the soil of the plains extremely fertile, permitting constant planting without fallowing. The island has probably been inhabited since 2000-2500 B.C.
To reach Ometepe island you can catch a boat from Granada and after 4 hours you’ll arrive to Altagracia port or you can leave from San Jorge (Rivas port) to reach, after 1 hour you reach Moyogalpa’s port. There are small wood boat that can take only people and ferry boat that can carry cars and Lorries.
It’s possible to make tracking in mountain bike, trips riding horses, on the slopes of both the volcanoes reaching several lagoons inside some dead craters.
They are also a many kinds of animals of which some are native plants are also archeological sites dated over 2000 years. You can find beautiful beaches of white sand where make the bathing.

Arrival – Granada:
Pick up at the International airport in Managua or the border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua, Pena’s Blancas. Transfer to Granada for your first night in Nicaragua.
Built by the Spanish conquistadors in 1524, Granada is the best place for tourism because of its beauty and colonial architecture, charming hotels and activities to enjoy nearby; Lake Nicaragua and the islands, Mombacho volcano with its natural reserve, Masaya and its folklore.

Masaya and the Pueblo:
This tour starts in the city of Masaya. You will discover the First National Park created in Nicaragua, the active Masaya Volcano, as well as its small museum dedicated to the volcano’s history.
Then you will visit the finest Handicraft Market where you can enjoy the creativity and variety of Nicaraguan art at bargain prices.
Continue to Catarina where you will enjoy delicious lunch with a magnificent view on the Apoyo lagoon, Mombacho volcano, Granada and Lake Nicaragua. Late afternoon, visit San Juan de Oriente, famous for its ceramic arts.

Tour Volcan Concepcion:
The Concepción is a near perfect cone-shaped volcano. It is the biggest on Ometepe, with a height of 1,610 meters. The volcano is still active. Smoke is coming out of its crater, and there are other fumaroles on the volcano’s slope as well.

Day 05 Departure:
After breakfast, take the ferry transfer back to Managua or Peñas Blancas (Costa Rica border).
