Corcovado National Park has one of the highest levels of biodiversity in the world. It is a wild region, with an abundance of rare wildlife, and the last area of primary forest on a Pacific coastline in Central America. The climate is very hot and humid which enables the trees to grow to heights of 80 meters. The park contains a fourth of the tree species of Costa Rica. Corcovado National Park encompasses eight habitats from mangrove swamp to mountain forest. The park protects over 400 species of birds, 116 species of amphibians and reptiles and 140 mammals. Â Corcovado is one of the only two places in the country that harbor squirrel monkeys. It is one of the last stands for the harpy eagle. Four species of sea turtles nest on the park’s beaches.

Unfortunately, beacuse it is remote it is quite a hike to get to he heart of the park, Sirena Ranger Station. It takes at least seven hours to hike into the park, and potentially more, depending upon the condition of roads and rivers. Fly – in to Corcovado – La Sirena Station
At 7.00 AM you will fly IN and OUT of Sirena in one day. Alvaro the owner of Alpha Romeo Charter Services is one of the three pople in CR allowed to land in the Park. The flight takes only 15 minutes from Pto Jimenez. The maximum number of peoplein the plane is six: incluiding the piolot and tour guide. Highlights, excellent chances to see white lipped peccary, tapir, spider monkeys, white faced capuchins, squirrel and howler monkeys, agoutis, coati, fresh tracks of jaguars, toucans, scarlet macaws. This is the real jungle!
Tours are customized to accommodate all levels of physical ability and endurance. Closed-toed shoes and sandals, are recommended.

Fly – in and hike out of the Park
For those adventures want more exercise, this trip can be modified to fly into the park and hike out- its around 14-17 miles depending upon which route you take, La Leona or Los Patos. You will spent full day hiking into Rainforest, looking the wildlife. The total cost for four people is variable depending upon route and transportation choices. The fly IN (or out) is usd$390, the tour guide fee about usd$175 via La Leona,usd$200 via Los Patos. A private pick-up jeep from Carate is usd$75 or $100 from los patos, additional entrances fees usd$10 pp., usd$10 lunch.

One day tour to La Leona – Corcovado
At 6.00 AM, you will leave from Puerto Jimenez (or your lodge, hotel or cabina) to Playa Carate, its two hour drive. After a 45 minutes walk on the beach you will spend a full day hiking in Corcovado. The amount of flora and fauna in the area is phenomenal and you will have the chance to swim in some crystalline waters of the Madrigal river. You return at the end of the day to Puerto Jimenez from Carate.
Including, transportation, naturalist biologist guide, entrance fees and a lunch.
